A Helicopter Safety and Operations Training was one of the courses offered this month at the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch by the Italian Red Cross. Marco Filippi, a member of the Italian Red Cross, conducted a four hour theory course at the Red Cross Gozo Branch headquarters in Xewkija.
The theoretical part of the course consisted of the proper helicopter approaches, handling of casualties near a helicopter, choosing a helicopter landing site, communication as well as other safety precautions that are crucial near helicopters.
The second part delt with the practical side of the course. These took place at Hal Safi were a helicopter was available for training. The practical sessions delt mostly on how to approach or walk away from a helicopter.
