Recently The Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, presented certificates to members of the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch, who offered lifeguard services at Ramla l‐Ħamra Bay.
The Malta Red Cross ‐ Gozo Branch was engaged by the Malta Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo to provide lifeguard services at Ramla Bay. On the other hand the Malta maritime Authority has funded the use of the water hydro ambulance that did patrols around Comino and other beaches.
Up to now we have intervened on a number of incidents, such as the pick up and recovery of two lost divers 3 miles off Comino, the recovery of a jet ski that ran out of fuel, the transport of an injured person from Comino to the main land.
The society has a life guard contingent that has been trained according to International Life Saving Society's (ISL) standards. ILS are the main regulators in this sector in Europe. The life saving squad was formed and trained through the collaboration of the Italian Red Cross.
In addition to the Life Guard Services at Ramla Bay, The Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch also embarked on an educational campaign aimed at the Children who attended “Skola Sajf” whereas they where informed about the hazards one can encounter at the beach and what type of prevention one must take. This will be continued throughout the scholastic year.
